Memorial

Memorials... Depressing right? Thanks Mr. Ravenda.

Now, you may be thinking, " Memorials? League? What is this sorcery?! " Well, the answer is Mr. Ravenda knows how to make everything depressing. Lets Begin.

So sometime in 2014 on an unspecified date, a 16 year old boy and his mother were presumed dead. How you may ask? Well let me tell you, it was shocking to hear. A young man from China was let out from school on his vacation break, but he made one crucial mistake. Instead of coming home after school, he made his way to a net cafe to play league of legends. Net cafes are generally 18+, but he went anyways. After returning home, a fight broke out between the boy and his mother. His mother said things like she "couldn't live with herself" because her son was playing online games. She had felt like she raised her son wrong. She began making threats to jump in the Jialing River. The two ended up on the banks of the river, and after her taking a few steps forward, she was caught by the undercurrent. His mother was swept away. His father arrived at the scene and was beginning to guilt trip his son saying things like "You had to go online, you had to play games!" The son himself, jumped in the river. That is what happened. I believe that this whole ordeal was unnecessary in the least, and they definitely took this to its highest extremities. However, what was done can not be undone. I do not know much about these people, as there were really no personal details in the article, but I can assume that they were loved and appreciated by their friends, family, and the atmosphere around them. Its just a shame that it had to end like that.

See you next week.

FAQ's! yay.

Okay, so today's post is going to be an FAQ. I've gotten a whole bunch of confused feedback and it's time to clear up some terms and acronyms to make my future posts more understandable. Let's get right to it then!

Q: You talk about "adc" so much, what is it?

A: Adc is an acronym standing for "attack damage carry." It basically means the main source of attack damage. Meta games most likely always have ONE adc if there are no complications. An adc usually goes to the bot lane, but on some very odd compositions there are instances where the top laner and the bottom laners switch lanes, and sometimes you even see adc jungles.

Q: What are the other roles?

A: The other lanes are top, middle, support, and there's one more role called jungle that basically helps other lanes. Some times in low level gameplay there are two people top instead of jungler. Top lane pretty much consists of tanks, fighters, and sometimes casters. Middle lane is basically at the center of everything. You are also able to roam to help top or bottom lane. Mid primarily consists of mages, ability power casters, attack damage casters, and things like assassins. Support is there to help the adc thrive in lane. They are there to protect and utilize their adc. Bottom lane is heavily dependent on the support.

Q: What is "Meta"?

A: Meta is basically the current style of play in the community. It depends on a lot of things, like new patches and updates. Metas are primarily focused around one class of champions(i.e. Assassins, Tanks)

Q: Why is Joe so bad?

A: THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW.

Bye. (:

France’s Recent Terrorist Attacks.
On Friday, November 13th, there was a series of coordinated terrorist attacks directed by the Islamic state, ISIS, in France in several locations. There were shootings and suicide bombings in several restaurants and musical venues. There were about 352 people injured to all different kinds of degrees, and at least 129 confirmed deaths.
It started when the killers rented an apartment in Bobigny about a week before pursuing the attack. There was three teams of terrorists that split out between two restaurants and one concert hall. There was a series of coordinated explosions and shootings, and many people were held hostage. It was a grievous time for the people of France. As residents of the U.S., it is only natural for us to feel sympathy for the Parisians, for the French were our first ally and deserve respect. No country should have to go through such a thing. We should all be able to live without being worried about terrorists, for god’s sake.
At first, one of the suspected terrorists were stopped. He was then let go because they did not suspect him anymore, later to find out that he was the guy they were looking for. There is a manhunt going on for the terrorists, and many have already been put on trial. All we can hope for is them to be put to justice, I would say to live in peace, but that seems like a distant reality, now doesn't it?

So let's get a little more in depth on LCS.

Hi Guys!

So I got a lot of confused feedback last week in the comments. This week I'm going to go more into depth about what the LCS (The thing I was discussing last week) is.

So to start off, LCS is basically a sports division for league of legends. It's more generally classified as "eSports" which is more vague for other games that also have competitive teams. LCS Stands for League of Legends Champion Series. TSM is a team that I mentioned in my last post. The roster part was simply the five people who made up the team, and when I said "changes to the roster" I meant that some people left or retired, and new people joined the team, thus "changes to the roster."

So, I hope you guys can see that in a better light now, and don't be hesitant to ask me to clarify something again, because I'd love to help you understand the game.

While we're on the topic of LCS, lets go more in depth. Basically, teams compete to win various competitions and at the end of the season, there is world championships. It is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS (in a good way) the amount of people who tune in to watch the games.

This infographic above demonstrates the amount of people who watch eSports on the regular. As you can see, since 2010, the number of viewers has rapidly increased. I've been a constant viewer, keeping up completely with LCS late 2011. Evidently, the vast majority of watchers are male, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think it'd be hard for some girls to get involved in league. I guess league is an acquired taste though.

That's enough for this week! Bye guys, leave me a comment and tell me if this helped.

Interview

Hey guys, its Dani.

So, most people seem to be really hyped about the new changes to the TSM roster. Personally, I'm so...  so against this. Okay well now that I've expressed my disapproval, LETS GET TO THE INTERVIEW...

On Tuesday, I asked my friend Amelia (who is a fairly experienced and has no favorite team) a series of questions regarding this. These were her responses.

Q: Do you think the changes made to the TSM roster will positively affect TSM's performance in later games?

A: I think that it's foreign territory for the new potential members of TSM, and the old ones as well. I don't really know how they will get along with Reginald, however. He's kind of a- wait is this for your school? (<- face=""helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif" font="" lol="">Moving on.. I think that it could go either way, depending on how the members adjust to eachother and to see if they really have that same synergy that the previous members had with one another.

Q: Now let's get into specifics. Are you especially happy/sad that someone left or someone joined? Who?

A: I think that Santorin really needed to go. Compared to the junglers on the other teams, it was like Santorin wasn't even there. It was like Santorin was dead or something.

Q: Heeeeeeeeeeere's a controversial topic. Dyrus. Any thoughts, to wrap it up?

A: I really don't think Dyrus was all that bad at all. Regi was a huge jerk to him. It made me feel even worse, because one he always gets camped, and two, he tries his best. I wouldn't be surprised if he retired because people were being butt hats to him. When he finally left, he went out with a very emotional interview, and that was when he got the fan support he really deserved

Posting again soon, let there be infographics. c:
Dani, out.

Drum Roll Please.... League vs. DotA

So.. Its time to cover a very... controversial topic.

LEAGUE VS. DOTA 2.

Yes, I just went there.

Well this is awkward isn't it... I'll try not to be biased.
*ahem league wins*

So lets start with a few similarities
League and DotA 2 have a few key similarities like:

  • -They are both MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)
  • -Lanes
  • -Phases (Laning and Grouping)
  • -Minions/Creeps (AI. controlled monsters spawned periodically to keep lanes pushing against each other)
  • -Champions(LoL)/Heroes(DotA 2) AKA characters
  • -Skill Shots (Abilities that need to be aimed)
  • -etc., etc.
  • And the differences...
  • -LoL has better champion art, and I'm not biased. I'm sure most people can agree.
  • -DotA 2 has more realistic graphics, but the game looks much darker and much more serious.
  • -Unlike LoL, in DotA 2 you start with ALL the champions instead of having to work up experience to purchase them from the in game store, which I think is more respectable. *cough cough*
  • -LoL has more champions than DotA 2 has heroes.

Okay, so I'll stop with the listing there. I'm definitely pretty biased because I don't have much experience with DotA or its community, but I can say, odds are, the DotA community is probably better than LoL. The LoL community is horrendously sickening.

That's all for this week! Have a good week! In the words of Arnold Shwarzenegger, I'll be back.

Champion Review - Kindred

So, let's talk about Kindred.
He's one of those champions that everyone is amazing at. Until you get one on your team. You're screwed if you get one on your team.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I really don't like how rapidly riot comes out with new champions, because it makes the game increasingly harder to keep up with and enjoy.
Anyways, back to Kindred. So, the over all theme that riot has been following is a bunch of celestial beings and void creatures. (ex. Rek'sai, Bard, Kalista etc.) Kindred follows this theme. I don't mind it personally, but I feel like there needs more diversity in the whole theme aspect.
Next would be Kindred's QWER abilities. His Q is oddly satisfying to use. It's a short dash that does damage to surrounding enemies. His W creates a large zone around his character. His wolf then separates from Kindred, and attacks whoever Kindred does. His E is a stacking effect. Once Kindred reaches 3 stacks, he does max percent health damage to his enemy. His R is a another zone effect. He creates a field in which no one, no matter what team, can fall below a certain health.

Okay guys, so that's all I've got for this week. Make sure to comment with any questions or criticism. Thanks, and come back next week! -Dani

My Introduction...

To start things off, my name is Danielle. I'm in the eighth grade, and I'm an obsessive League of Legends player. I've been playing LoL since the end of season 3 and I'm currently Silver division 3. If you don't know what League of Legends is, it's a fast-paced, competitive game with a gigantic player base. The objective of the game is to combat the other team on a map split into three lanes: top, middle, and bottom(abbreviated as bot)
League of Legends map diagram
The role that I enjoy playing is "attack damage carry" (abbreviated as adc.) The main job of an adc is to stay alive in team fights and deal massive amounts of damage while sustaining your own health. This can be a hard role for an adc who is versing a team with bruisers or fighters. Most of them can jump to the back and kill the adc who does not have much health. This is where the supports and tanks come in. They are there to "peel," or protect the adc.

That is pretty much the basics of the game, specifically the adc role. I will elaborate more in further posts as necessary.

I'll end off by saying that my blog will be all about League of Legends. Not only my role, but LoL as a whole. The community and all.

Thanks for reading!
